About Environmental Health and Safety

Welcome to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S).  We support UNC Charlotte’s vision by providing EH&S services that sustain our environment, promote health and safety to all students, faculty, staff, contractors and visitors.  We are striving for EH&S excellence by seeking to involve all areas of the university in moving from a single EH&S management system to a broad establishment of a positive proactive safety culture.  Our goals are to provide EH&S Operating Excellence by:

  1. Assessing the University Environment and establish engineering or administrative controls to eliminate environmental, human, intellectual, property, financial and reputational loss.
  2. Provide services and support that contribute to and sustain safe student life, research, occupational health safety, and regulatory compliance.
  3.  Actively engage the university community in identifying, analyzing and controlling EH&S risk in their specific areas that could negatively impact the university community.

We enthusiastically welcome you to our campus and encourage you to participate in our positive proactive safety culture by:

  1. Understanding and accepting your personal responsibility for sustaining our environment and conducting yourself within safety and health guidelines.
  2.  Adhering and enforcing all safety policies, programs, procedures and practices.
  3. Exhibiting a positive attitude toward safety through the encouragement of safe actions, identifying hazards and eliminating hazards.

Together we will continue to improve our positive proactive safety culture and thus prevent death, human injury/illness, environmental loss and ensure our university is safe and free of recognized hazards.
