Management at all levels must insure that safety, health and personal security are prime considerations in the development and planning of all tasks to be performed by state employees. Due to his fact when jobs are analyzed and performance objectives, expectations, or standards developed consideration would be made regarding safety and health requirements for some positions, additional critical tasks/activities should be developed expressly for the primary job responsibility of safety and health.

Education and Training

  1. A direct relationship exist between the number of accidents, or the severity of injuries/illnesses and the attention given to appropriate safety and health training.

  2. Educational and training programs are to be established by each department to ensure each employee is instructed regarding his/her work hazards and the methods by which these hazards are controlled.

  3. Minimum training requirements include:

  1. New employee safety orientation

  2. Specific job training or documented on-the-job safety training

  3. Special hazard training (such as hazardous chemicals, hazardous equipment, respirator use, etc.)

  4. Monthly education and training for employees in high accident potential categories.


Report Workplace hazards

The University Environmental Health and Safety Office requests that employees suspecting fire, safety, health or other hazards in the workplace contact their immediate supervisors with these concerns.

There shall be neither reprisal nor sanctions taken against any employee for bringing attention to a safety and health problem or expressing other safety complaints.
